Fishing Management Project Lumsån

The visions for our project are to create a model that other land/ water owners and fishing management associations etc with their own stretches of water can copy.
We aim to disseminate information and above all inspire to caring by adapting biotope management and sensible rules to create attractive fishing waters.
Sportfiske För Morgondagen (SFM), Älgmark Malingsbo-Kloten and Sveaskog together have initiated a project to restore a stretch of Lumsån River. The main aim of the project is to see whether different management measures can result in the restoration of biological diversity in Lumsån River, principally as regards to the presence of naturally reproducing populations of trout.
This project aims to apply fishing restrictions on a stretch of about 2 kms of the Lumsån River. An important part of the project will be to carry out experimental catches, carry out an inventory of the bottom living fauna and other studies. This is to collect information from this stretch of water to access the result of the various measures.
The aim of the biotope management measures, fishing restrictions, monitoring and scientific measuments is to see whether these result in a higher abundance of fish and higher average weights as well as to see if there is a richer insect community than before the project adaptations commenced.
